CIC204 with Robyn's Fetish

Happy Easter!  and for those of you who don't celebrate Easter - Happy Spring!  In keeping with the holiday Cupcake Inspirations has a lovely inspiration for you.  Those cupcakes are just adorable with the candy handles and robin's egg sitting atop the icing.  I'd sure like to get my hands on one of them.  If you aren't inspired by the cupcakes you can use the colors for your inspiration.  They are perfect for spring.

This week we have Robyn's Fetish is back sponsoring us.  You can find an image for any kind of card there and you can see some more samples on our challenge blog.  The sweeties always make beautiful samples.

For me it seems that while Spring has actually been here a week or so when Easter gets here it feels official.   That probably goes back to my childhood when Easter Sunday was the day that everyone finally broke out their spring finery.  We actually wore hats and gloves in those days.  But I digress...

For my card I used  Kid Bunny and made him lavender just like the bunny on the cupcake.  His bow and the card base are green.  The faux stitching and sentiment is done with a purple fine point marker.  One of the cool things about digital images is that you can make any size your printer will allow.  You can make this image fit on a tag to tie around an Easter basket and it would be especially cute if you colored the face and hair like the recipient's face and hair.

Here's the deets:

SFTW - Anything But a Card

This fortnight at Stampin' for the Weekend we're challenging you to make "Anything But a Card".  We've got a new (at least to me) sponsor of Flat Friends and they gave the design team some images to use.  If you stop over at our challenge blog you'll see some more of the cute images and what the rest of the team created.

For me an "Anything But a Card" challenge can be a push to try something new.   So for this challenge when I couldn't think of anything that I wanted to alter,  I finally decided to try something new.  Now if you think that my project is a bookmark you're wrong but I can see why you would think that.  For me the best place to look for a new type of project is the Splitcoast Stampers Tutorials.  This is a free resource that anyone can use, well, anyone who is a member of Splitcoast that is, but membership is free.  I spent a lot of time looking through the list of tutorials and found a few I wanted to try, I finally decided on this,  "Pull Up Treats" which is basically a candy bar wrapper which I've been spying for years and just never got around to trying.  I am quite pleased to say that this is a very quick and easy project.  While I think this could be a great favor for a bridal shower, I don't know how many of these I could make before I lost what is left of my mind, but as a sweet little "pick me up" for a friend who's under the weather I only have to make one.  It would be perfect for a Girl Scout leader to make for her troop.

This wrapper is meant to hold a long thin candy bar like a Hershey's chocolate bar and usually the photos of them show the candy bar peeking out of the top.  Inside my wrapper there's just a piece of cardstock because I didn't want to have a candy bar that accessible, I think most of you will know what I mean.

PWC251 - For a Child

This week at Paper Pretties  the challenge theme is "For a Child".   Even if you don't have a child to make a card for there's probably someone in your life who is young at heart and will like a child's card.   It's kind of like this, your friends (think husband) may not be as smart as a fifth grader but they're also probably not as mature as one either.   Anyway, have some fun and make a card for a child.  Link it up on our challenge blog and you'll be entered for a chance to win some digis.

For my card I chose the adorable "Surf's Up" penguin.  I think the image is perfectly suitable for a boy or a girl depending on how you embellish it.  It seems I never have a boy or man's card handy when I need one so this time I tried to make it masculine.  Masculine cards tend to come in shades of brown, green and blue but a cheery red and yellow card works too.  For me it's a matter of keeping the embellishments toned down.  I still like to use a charm but instead of ribbon and a bow I just tie a simple knot and instead of bling I'll use buttons or brads.  Of course you have to know your recipient.  Most of the men I send cards to don't pay a lot of attention to the cards and it wouldn't matter if I used ribbon and bows or bling.

If you need some more inspiration (even if you don't) visit Paper Pretties and see the great work the rest of the design team has made.

Here's the deets:

CIC203 - DRS designs

Time for another Cupcake Inspirations Challenge.  Boy oh boy the inspiration cupcakes are just darling and the sponsor DRS Designs has given me an equally darling image 'Easter Sleepover" to use.  I enjoyed coloring this image and making the card was tons of fun.  I hope you have as much fun making a card for our challenge.

This could easily be my favorite time of year.  I love the pastel colors and I love the Easter images of bunnies and chickies.  when I lived up north I loved the spring flowers that are finally blooming after the cold winter.

Here's the deets:

Pile It On - Dots

This week the theme for the Pile It On challenge is "Dots".  You probably can't tell that the paper that I wrote my sentiment on is dotted because there's so little of it, but it is there.  Also in the image there are dots on the wires on which the birds sit.  I've also added some red pearl dots around the sentiment and a couple button embellishments to make it a little more dotty.  If you count my dotty brain...

This image from Stitchy Bear is digital and it's printed on patterned paper.  I like the look of stamps on patterned paper and since there's no coloring to do on this one I decided that a patterned paper background would make it more interesting.   Some of you may not realize that you can do that with your digital images or that your paper doesn't have to 8-1/2 x 11.  It just has to be a bit larger than your image.   This was done with just a scrap of paper.  All you have to do is lightly tape the scrap where the image is going to print.  This is the same thing you would do if you wanted to paper piece with a digital image.  It's easy peasy, give it a try, you'll like it.

Here's the deets:

Jellypark Friends - New Release

The words "Jellypark Friends - New Release" are music to my ears or should it be "a sight for sore eyes".  The Jellypark Friends images are always so cute that I can't wait to use them.  There are two Jellypark Friends design teams and this week it's my team's turn to use an image from the new release.  The other team are making cards or projects using the challenge theme "Pretty Pastels".  It wasn't hard to follow the theme as well as use the new release image "Ewe Are So Sweet Sheep".   The other image is "King for a Day", it's a little fellow wearing a big crown and it comes with a couple sentiments that would work for Father's Day.  You should stop over at the Jellypark Friends challenge blog so you can see it and of course you can also see what the rest of the design teams have created.  You're sure to love what you see and hopefully be inspired to play along with us.

SFTW = A Little Late

It's already Saturday,  so this post is a day late but at least it's not a dollar short.  It's the weekend so it's time for the Stampin' for the Weekend challenge "Child's Play".  Our sponsor for this challenge is Live and Love Crafts.   What a great shop they have, I've been swooning over the lace but that's just a tiny bit of what's available.  If I were you I'd be sure to do some crafting this weekend and enter this challenge.   Too bad for me, I can't enter the challenge and I can't do any crafting this weekend.  I'm out of town catching up with my buddies.  I'm having a great time and not missing my craft supplies at all.  I'll only be gone a couple days so I'll be home before I can miss it.

Here's the deets:  (I'm winging it,  I forgot to bring my notes with me, I'll fix this when I get home)

PWC 249 - Make Your Own Background

This week's challenge at Paper Pretties is to make your own background paper.  Normally I wouldn't make my own background paper but that's because I have a lot of patterned paper.  But that's the challenge so I embrace it.  One of the easiest ways to do this is to use a stamp set that has matching small images.  Paper Pretties Hippity, Hoppity Sophia is just such a set.  Besides Easter sentiments there are two eggs which I inked up and stamped on card stock.  I also ran some card stock through my Big Shot in a tiny dots folder, after it was embossed I lightly rubbed an ink pad across it.  Because it's a mat there isn't much of it showing, before the image was attached it looked more like patterned paper.  If you put your mind to it you can think up other ways to make your own paper.  You've got a week to do it so put your thinking cap on and get crafty.  We look forward to seeing what you will make.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Paper Pretties "Hippity, Hoppity Sophia"clear
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black" and "Teal Zeal"; Versa Magic "Pink Petunia"
paper - MFT "Kraft", "Pink Lemonade", "Sour Apple" and "Sno-Cone" card stock
miscellaneous - copics; Spellbinder's "Egg" die; Martha Stewart "Grass" punch; Stampin' Up "Corner Ticket Punch"; pink Dew Drops; Divine Twine; egg charm

CIC201 - Stamp Fairy

The Cupcake Inspirations 200th challenge party's almost over, but first we need to announce the winners. If you entered all of the designers blogs don't forget to visit them again to see if you were a winner.  Thank you to everyone who stopped to leave a comment on my post.  I wrote all your names on little pieces of paper, folded them up, put them in a bowl and choose one.  While I was tossing the papers my husband woke up from his nap and asked a million questions about what I was doing.  He never did understand my answers and he felt left out when I wouldn't let him pull the winning slip.  Too bad, he can have his own contest if he wants to pick winners.  The winner of the $12 gift certificate from A Day for Daisies is Sian Ridley.  Sian, I'll drop you a line when this post goes live to tell you what you need to do.

This week we are sponsored by Stamp Fairy.  You will find the cutest images there, I love the little bears, and if you are a teddy bear lover you could be there for a very long visit.  The inspiration for my card is the flower with the pearl center and the colors.  This shade of blue on the hat is one of my favorites and I was very happy that I was able to match it up with these papers.  Usually I would pick my papers and then match my coloring to it because that is easier but sometimes it doesn't work that way.  For this image I pulled colors from the inspiration photo and then looked for paper that would match.  These are great spring colors so it wasn't a difficult task.  The decorations on the cupcake are also great spring images so it's going to be an easy peasy challenge for you.  Don't forget to link it up on the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge blog so  the sweeties can see what you created and so that you'll have a chance to win the Stamp Fairy prize.

Jellypark Friends - Bunny Hop

It's time for a Jellypark Friends challenge and what a fun one we've got.  We're calling it "Bunny Hop".  What we want is to see bunnies all over your card.  I don't know about you but I've been jones-ing for the pastel colors and flowers of spring.  Not outside, here in paradise it's hardly been chilly and there's always something blooming but on the internet papercrafts have been winter themed long enough for me.  So bring on the bunnies.

My card uses one of the new releases from Jellypark Friends "Time for Tea".  One of the little girls is wearing her hat with bunny ears.  The card  has bunny brads, and felt bunnies embellishing it.  How cute are those felt bunnies and don't you just love how the ears fit around the oval die cut.

PWC 248 - Terrific Texture

This week's challenge at Paper Pretties is "Terrific Texture".  Texture adds visual interest to your cards and there's many ways you can add texture to your card.  Here's what I did - the bottom layer of green card stock was dry embossed with a folder that looks like script hand writing   A gathered ribbon and cord were wrapped around the yellow striped layer.  It's not easy to see that the circle dies have an embossed circle.  Stickles were used on the icing and on the 4 leaf clover.  Besides these I can think of a few other things you can do to add texture.  Glitter, Flower Soft and Liquid Applique work well.  You can score lines too.  Use fabric or burlap even chip board can add texture.  That's a lot of ways to add texture to your cards and there's probably more but right now that's all I can think of.  If you pop over to the Paper Pretties challenge blog you can see what the rest of the pretty girls created.  After you've made your card link it up so we can see what you've made.

Here's the deets:
stamp -  Paper Pretties "Holiday Sweets II clear"
ink - hp printer
paper - Stampin' Up "Glorious Green" and "Yo Yo Yellow" card stock, "Subtles Pattern Pack" dp

It's Time To Celebrate!!!!

Can you believe it?  The Cupcake Inspirations Challenge has reached its 200th challenge.  Thanks to all our wonderful sponsors, who generously supply prizes for a winner and samples for the design team to use.  We have been so lucky to work with these companies and  every week one of our fans has been the lucky recipient of a prize.  This week is a really big deal.  Each of the design team members have a prize to give away and there's a Grand Prize worth over $200 on the Cupcake Inspirations Blog.  Some of the sponsors are offering special discounts this week in honor of our celebration.  You can find out those details on the CIC blog post.

We've set up a blog hop so you can visit each of the designer's blogs.  For a little more fun we're being joined by some of our past designers.  If you are following the blog hop you should have started at the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge blog, if you didn't start there you can go back and start from there now, I'll wait here for you to come back.  You should have gotten here from our past designer Anita's blog, Anita Be Stampin' and when you're finished here you'll be going to visit Christine's blog Sweet Pea Cards.  If you get lost along the way just stop back at Cupcake Inspirations where you can find the list of all the participants as well as the links to their blogs.

For this challenge we've asked each of the designers to pick a favorite cupcake from the past challenges.  I had a ridiculously difficult time picking a favorite.  I don't think there was a single one I didn't like.  Let me give you a piece of advice.  Don't look for your favorite cupcake on an empty stomach (don't ask me how I know).  I gravitated towards the cutesy cuppies.  In the end I decided upon these adorable chickies.  They look yummy and they make me think of spring.

Each of the design team members has been teamed up with a sponsor and I am so lucky to be paired with a Day for Daisies who are giving away a $12 gift card.  In order to be entered to win this prize all you have to do is leave a comment at the end of this post, it'd be nice if you were a follower but you don't have to be.  To win the Grand Prize all you need to do is make a card inspired by any one of the 200 inspiration photos and link it up on the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge Blog.   You have until Saturday, March 8 2013 at 12:00 noon CST to make your comment here and/or link up your creation to the CIC blog.  You'll have to visit the other designers to find out how to win the prizes on their blog.  So when you're done here just start hopping along and enter whatever ones you'd like.

I do love a Day for Daisies.  It was love at first sight for me.  I think the designs have a unique, crisp and fresh look to them.  They can be used as is or they can be colored.  Here's what ADFD have to say about themselves:
A DAY FOR DAISIES Offers the very best quality and variety of digital stamps. Enjoy themed categories of over 1500 fun and whimsical digital images, including fairy tales and magical mermaids, cutie kids, vintage illustrations, sentiments and lovely designs for all occasions! We also offer an exclusive freebie section so visit us at the shop www.adayfordaisies.com and come play with us!

When I make a card for CIC I try to find an image which resembles or has something in common with the inspiration photo and I try to use the color scheme too.  For this card I used the image "Nesting" because I thought the little hatchling chicks looked like the chickies on the cuppies and I used papers that were in shades of beige and yellow like the cuppies.  Because these colors are so soft and subtle I chose a peach ribbon to give the card a little pop.  The lace that's under the ribbon was originally white.  I used Copic E40 refill ink to color it.  It's alcohol ink so it dries very quickly.  All you need to do is drop the lace (this works well with ribbon too) in a baggie and squirt in a couple drops, mush it around a little and it's done in a couple seconds.  If you're concerned about the drying just blast it with your heat gun for a couple seconds.

Here's the deets:
stamp - A Day for Daisies "Nesting"
ink - hp printer
paper - Rubber Soul "Garden Variety Collection" dp; My Favorite Things "Natural" card stock; Stampin' Up "So Saffron" card stock
miscellaneous - copics; Stampin' Up "Festive Paper Piercing Pack" and "Window Frames Framelits"; My Favorite Things "Circle Stax" die-namics; lace; ribbon; pearls; machine stitching
